Wax Melts: Tips and Tricks
(from someone who makes them)
Wax Melts are the easiest and one of the safest ways to fill a home with fragrance, and they're the one product I get the most questions about. So here's everything I'd tell you from my home fragrance business — how they work, how to keep your warmer clean, and how long to expect them to last.
How they actually work
A wax melt has no flame and no wick. You sit one in the dish of an electric warmer, the gentle heat melts the wax, and the fragrance lifts into the room from the melt itself. That's the whole thing. No fire, no soot, nothing to trim — just warm wax releasing scent, which makes melts a lovely choice for a home with little ones or pets about.
If your melt isn't throwing as much scent as you'd hoped, it's almost always the room, not the melt. A large or open-plan space needs more wax, or a second warmer, to fill it. Give it time too — fragrance builds as the wax warms through, so a room that smells faint after five minutes will be lovely after twenty.
How to change and clean your warmer
When the scent has faded, it's time to swap the wax — and the easiest way to clean out the old melt is to use its own heat. Switch the warmer on for a moment until the wax is just soft and melted, switch it off, then wipe the dish out with a paper towel or a cotton ball. The old wax lifts away in one go and leaves the dish clean and ready for the next one. No scraping, no mess.
If you'd rather not warm it, the other way is to pop the dish in the freezer for a few minutes — the hardened wax shrinks and you can twist it straight out. Either works. The warm-and-wipe is just quicker.
How long they last
Nrglife wax melts give you around 10 hours of fragrance from each melt. When the scent goes quiet, the fragrance oil is simply spent — the wax may still be sitting there, but it's done its job. That's not a faulty melt, that's a finished one. Swap it for a fresh piece and you're away again.
Make it easy on yourself
If you're new to melts, start with my [Wax Melt Bundle] — it lets you move through a few of my scents and find the ones that feel like home, which is half the fun of it. And if you still need something to melt them in, my [Wax Melt Warmer] is the electric warmer I make these for, so you know the heat and the wax are matched the way they should be.
That's all you need to do. Sit one in the warmer, switch it on, and let the room change.
With warmth,

P.S. One melt at a time is plenty — you don't need to load the dish to get a good throw. If a room still feels faint, and an extra one. If there is still no change it wants a second warmer, not more wax. Save the rest for next time.
